We are the guardians of a treasure that has travelled the world—astonishing the King of Spain, the Empress of Japan and Andy Warhol, and bringing smiles to millions.
This treasure is a collection of nearly 800 illustrations by dozens of artists from across Europe. Over half a century, it was assembled by the children’s book publisher Otakar Božejovský von Rawennoff and features some of the greatest names in European illustration. A collection like this exists only in America and Japan.
When Otakar entrusted us with his collection, he gave us a mission: do it properly—create a place people will want to return to because they simply can’t get enough. And so, the Palace of Illustration was born.
We are dreamers who seek to nurture people’s sense of beauty—and pragmatists who know it must be done wisely. Our goal is not to overwhelm or lecture, but to offer a glimpse of something exceptional and spark curiosity. We believe people will appreciate it—and come back.
The world of children’s illustration is incredibly rich. And when you add a Baroque palace above Krumlov… well, come and see for yourself!
We don’t believe in miracles—but sometimes, things just come together. We love Český Krumlov, art in all its forms, and unique projects. That’s why the Palace of Illustration is something special to us. We’d be happy to show you around.
