One of Poland's most important illustrators, he is also a painter, sculptor, and stage designer. He lives and works in Zalesie Dolne near Warsaw. He studied painting and art history. He is the author of nearly two hundred books for children and adults, which have been translated into twenty languages. His illustrations are realistic and often focus on the theme of nature. In the 1990s, he created a collection of animal sculptures called Wilkoń's Ark. His work has earned him international renown, and he has received numerous awards.
